About Yasmin N. Ali

Yasmin Ali is a Chicago based multimedia artist. Her first art form was singing and songwriting with her band, Slowbots, who performed in Chicago's 2013 World Music Festival at the Old Town School of Folk Music with Nawal.  She has also performed at the some of the top music venues in Chicago including the House of Blues and SPACE.  She continues to work with the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band on their musical interfaith endeavor : The Salaam Shalom Project.

She has been developing her focus on multimedia installations through Mozawa, a Chicago based incubator focused on artistic collaboration between the mediums. With Mozawa, she has worked on a year long development of Strindberg's Dream Play featured at the Museum of Contemporary Art and at High Concept Labs at Mana Contemporary.

Turning to the canvas to express and bring to light her vision helped her explore how experience colors our day to day life  Her work focuses on the interplay between strength and vulnerability, and also sheds light on the insightful cracks that can form in between.  Within her work, you will see the examination of these themes through objects and materials with vestigial significance.
